Keywords and Niche Categories are everything when selling online.
|
- Choose a niche product category to
reduce the number of websites you will be competing with online. Example:
instead of just selling "book', sell books that are more specific like "rare
books", and even more specific "rare history books".
- Choose (3) specific key words that
should lead people to your website when they type your keywords in a search
engine such as Google. Example: "rare history books". These keywords are the
most important ingredient in designing and driving traffic to your online
store.
- Conduct a sample search using "Google"
and your your keywords to determine the level of competition. Determine how
many websites are selling "rare history books" and how well are they designed.
- Choose a website name that includes
some or all of your key words. Example:
www.buyrarehistorybooksonline.com.
- Use
www.register.com to determine if the name is available. You can either
purchase the name yourself or have USA Web Retailing do it for you for a
minimal charge.
- Choose 5-20 products you want to sell
on your website. These products will be a direct reflection of your key words.
Example: 20 books that people may be looking for if they are searching for
"rare history books".
- Find a supplier that can sell you the
books on a regular basis.
- Outline each product you will be
selling on your website. Include:
digital photo, part number, description and price. This is the information
that will be placed on your website.
- Conduct a competitive analysis of your
products to determine that your prices are in line with the competition. If
little competition is found, you can set your own market price, provided it is
in line with what consumers are willing to pay.
- Establish a location for your new
company. It should include a mailing address (PO Box is ok), a phone number,
and a physical location that you can stock and ship your products.
- Create an official business name for
your new company and register it with the state. It can be a DBA, LLC,
corporation, ect.
- Open a checking bank account under the
business name.
- Open a online merchant account. USA Web
Retailing has a good relationship with a merchant account supplier that offers
very completive rates. Monthly costs usually average about $50 a month with a
$100-200 set up fee.
- Choose a theme for your website. This
includes look, feel, colors etc.
- Contact your USA Web Retailing salesperson.
After you have all the above information ready, you are ready to develop
your ecommerce website. An online store usually takes about 1-2 weeks to
design.
